Loading this tab.
A survey of the marketing function and process at the firm level. Topics include examination of the marketing environment; the critical elements of the firm's marketing mix; product, pricing, distribution, and promotion variables; contemporary trends in marketing; buyer behaviour and marketing research. MARK 160 was formerly called MARK 290; credit will not be granted for both courses.
Team-based learning, conducted in class. Each module starts with an individual readiness test (iRAT), then a team readiness test (tRAT), then discussion and exercises.

AI allowed, with disclosure
AI may be used to guide your work, but you must disclose that you used it, which tools, and how. The ideas and final wording must be yours.
“It is imperative in this course that if you choose to use AI; you disclose that you used AI, which AI tools you used (giving credit where credit is due) and how/what you used AI for.”
Summarised for students, with the outline's wording where it matters. The outline and VIULearn are authoritative.
Attendance isn't graded, but in-class work is
Missing a class means no credit for the assignments that happened. For team assignments you must be present to earn credit.
Late arrival = 0 on missed in-class work
Arriving after an assignment at the start of class, or leaving before one at the end, scores 0 for that assignment.
No make-ups, but three safety valves
1) Drop one individual and one group RAT score. 2) A comprehensive final in exam week can replace one assignment. 3) If serious illness or life events derail the term, meet early to arrange a course drop that protects your GPA.
Late work is accepted at a lower ceiling
Late after the start of class on the due day: eligible for a B at most; the next day a C; then D; then F. In-class writings, term tests and presentations only on their scheduled days.
Approved calculators only; phones off in tests
TI BAII Plus, BAII, BA35; Sharp EL-733A; HP 10B. Cell phones off during tests.
APA citations; error-free English
Faculty of Management requires APA. Spelling, punctuation and grammar errors are penalized.

Learning With Cases

Only available on reserve in the library. A VIULearn lecture video covers the case-analysis process, so you don't need the book to do the cases.
VIULearn, the texts the outline links and study material from other students. Each link says where it came from.
VIU's learning management system (Brightspace by D2L). The authoritative copy of announcements, grades and submissions.
Made by students, not by your school or your instructor. Nobody has checked these against the syllabus.
Links open in a new tab on another site. GPA Shark stores only URLs a syllabus prints; the rest are labelled school services or searches.
Questions to test yourself, a rubric in plainer words, a plan built from the deadlines. It never writes or finishes work you hand in, and does less where the outline prohibits AI.
